Kuressaare Airport will be closed to air traffic for three weeks in August

Reconstruction work will begin at Kuressaare Airport in August. The project will upgrade the airfield infrastructure to improve aviation safety and increase energy efficiency.

Due to construction work, the airport will be closed to air traffic from 10 to 31 August. No scheduled flights to or from Kuressaare will operate during this period. Rescue and medical helicopter operations will remain available if necessary, as the Police and Border Guard Board’s helicopter landing site is located outside the airport grounds.

As part of the reconstruction work, the runway lights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting, the runway’s asphalt pavement and markings will be renewed, and a Pilot Controlled Lighting (PCL) system will be installed, allowing pilots to switch on the airfield lights themselves when necessary.

The total cost of the project is €2,507,776.14, and the construction work will be carried out by KMG OÜ. The contract period is six months.
