Tallinn Airport sets new October passenger record
Nearly 375,000 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport in October, an increase of 7.5% compared to the same month last year. This was the highest October passenger figure in the airport’s history, exceeding the previous record set in 2025 by 26,000 passengers. During the first ten months of the year, the airport served 3.27 million passengers, an increase of 11% compared to the same period last year.
Wizz Air contributed the most to passenger growth, having significantly expanded its operations in Tallinn over the past year. In October, the airline operated flights to eight destinations and accounted for 15% of all passengers at Tallinn Airport. airBaltic maintained its position as the largest airline, with a market share of 23%. In total, 24 airlines operated scheduled and charter flights from Tallinn to 55 destinations in October.
“This year’s summer season was characterised by a wider choice of destinations than ever before. New routes and increased airline capacity provided passengers with more travel options and supported passenger growth. October’s results provide a fitting conclusion to a strong summer season. As we move into the winter season, both flight capacity and the range of destinations traditionally change,” said Eero Pärgmäe, Member of the Management Board of Tallinn Airport.
The vast majority of passengers, 87%, travelled on scheduled flights, while charter flights accounted for 13%. The most popular charter destinations were Turkey, Egypt and Greece, with smaller numbers of passengers travelling to Italy, Tunisia, Cyprus and Montenegro.
Warsaw was the most popular direct scheduled flight destination in October, followed by Helsinki, Frankfurt, Stockholm and Riga.
The number of aircraft movements increased by 2.2% compared to October last year. A total of 3,955 take-offs and landings were recorded, averaging 128 aircraft movements per day.
Regional airports
Passenger numbers also increased at all of Estonia’s regional airports in October. Together, they served 9,523 passengers, compared to 8,614 in October last year.
Tartu Airport welcomed 5,044 passengers, exceeding the 5,000-passenger mark in a single month for the first time and setting a new monthly record. Kuressaare Airport served 3,112 passengers, Kärdla Airport 1,038, Pärnu Airport 137 and Ruhnu Airfield 192 passengers. Seasonal scheduled flights from Ruhnu to Pärnu and Kuressaare also resumed in October.
Winter flight season begins
The winter flight season, which began on 25 October, offers passengers a variety of travel options from Tallinn Airport, whether for business trips, holidays or short city breaks.
“Wizz Air’s expanded route network makes city breaks one of the key themes of this winter season. Direct flights offer a great opportunity to enjoy a few days away or spend a long weekend exploring a new destination,” said Pärgmäe.
The transition to the winter season traditionally brings changes to airline schedules and the range of destinations available. According to current forecasts, flight capacity this winter is expected to be approximately 9% lower on average than last winter. This is driven by airlines optimising their route networks and rising fuel prices.
