Check in

You can check in either online or at the check-in desks at the airport.

Check-in at the airport normally starts 2 hours before departure. All airlines allow check-in at the desks at the airport but some airlines may charge a fee for this service.

Online check-in

Good to know

  • By checking in early, you will obtain your boarding passes and have the option to choose a seat to your liking. If you are flying only with hand luggage, checking in online is easy and saves a lot of time at the airport.
  • Check-in desk opening hours vary by airline.
  • If you have checked in online and have the boarding pass with you either printed on a paper or in your mobile phone, and if you are travelling with just a hand-baggage you don’t need to go to the check-in desk at the airport. You are free to go directly to the security check.
  • If you travel with baggage that needs to go to the cargo room of the aircraft, then go to the check-in desk designated to your flight to drop off your baggage.
  • Self-service Bag Drop is available on airBaltic, Finnair, Lufthansa, Norwegian, SAS, SWISS and Wizz Air flights.

Important! Come to the airport early even if you have checked in online. Normally, airlines close check-in 45 minutes before departure. This means that even if the flight is to depart outside of rush hours and there are no security or check-in queues, a passenger arriving at the airport a half an hour before departure will probably miss their flight.

The following airlines allow online check-in:

How the self-service bag drop works

  • To start the process, passenger must scan their boarding card, then confirm the passenger’s name, flight number and destination and that there are no dangerous items in the bag.
  • Then the bag is weighed and the machine prints out the luggage tag, which then have to be attached, following the instructions.
  • Once the tag is in place, passenger must confirm this, place the bag on the conveyer belt and scan the barcode on the tag.
  • The conveyer belt then starts up and takes the bag to the sorting area.
  • Machine issues a receipt confirming that the luggage has been registered. Keep the reciept till the end of the trip.
