Kuressaare Airport Reopens to Air Traffic

On 1 September, Kuressaare Airport reopened following three weeks of reconstruction works. From 10 to 31 August, the airport was closed to air traffic to renew the runway asphalt surface and carry out the necessary preparations for replacing the runway lighting.

During the works, approximately 15,000 tonnes of asphalt were laid across an area of 100,000 m², new runway markings were installed, and preparations were made for replacing the runway lights. As one of the innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions, milled asphalt was recycled and used in the new asphalt mix.

The reconstruction works at the airport will continue with the installation of new LED runway lights and a Pilot Controlled Lighting (PCL) system. These works do not require the runway to be closed.

The total cost of the reconstruction works is €2,507,776.14, and the construction works are being carried out by KMG OÜ. The contract has a duration of six months.
