June was Tallinn Airport’s busiest month ever
Nearly 329,000 passengers – an average of almost 11,000 a day – passed through Tallinn Airport in June, making it the busiest ever month for the airport. This was a 21% rise year on year, and 3.5% higher than the same period in 2019. The main reason for this growth was additional flight options, with airlines selling 23% more seats via new routes and extra flights.
The most popular destination in June was Stockholm, followed by Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt and Antalya. There were regular flights to 38 destinations during the month, as well as package tours to holiday destinations in Türkiye, Greece, Montenegro, Egypt, Bulgaria and Albania. The airlines with the biggest market share in June were airBaltic (25% of all passengers), Ryanair (17.6%) and Lufthansa (10.6%).
Eero Pärgmäe, a member of the management board of Tallinn Airport, says that summer being the traditional season for holidays also makes it the peak season for flying. “All of the airlines that regularly fly out of Tallinn have increased their number of flights this summer,” he explained. “Fierce competition has driven down ticket prices as well, which has further boosted demand.”
Pärgmäe also had a reminder for passengers: “Since it’s peak season, be sure to arrive at the airport two hours ahead of your scheduled departure so you can check in and get through security and passport control in good time. That way you’ll avoid the risk of missing your flight.”
A total of 8383 passengers passed through regional airports in Estonia in June: 3720 in Kuressaare, 2978 in Tartu (incl. 2792 on regular flights between Tartu and Helsinki), 1651 in Kärdla and 34 in Pärnu.
