January sees almost 5% increase in passenger numbers year on year at Tallinn Airport

A total of 219,291 people passed through Tallinn Airport in January, marking a 4.7% rise on the same period in 2024. The number of tickets on sale during the month increased by 6.5%.

Travellers had 33 regular routes to choose from in January, with the most popular flights being those to the traditional hubs of Helsinki, Frankfurt and Riga. The greatest numbers of connections were to Helsinki (up to 10 daily flights), Stockholm (up to five daily flights) and Riga (four daily flights). Ryanair, airBaltic and Swiss saw the largest increases in passenger numbers. Typical of the winter season, the most popular charter flights were those to package-holiday destinations in Egypt, but such flights also took travellers as far afield as Sri Lanka.

The airline serving the highest number of passengers during the month was airBaltic, flying 29% of all travellers direct to 17 destinations. Second was Ryanair, with 10 direct routes and a 21% market share. A total of 14 airlines operated regular flights from Tallinn in January.

A total of 2778 flights were operated during the month, averaging 90 take-offs and landings per day – the same number as in January 2024.

Estonia’s regional airports served a total of 6818 passengers in the first month of the year, including 2900 in Tartu, 2865 in Kuressaare and 762 in Kärdla. Ruhnu’s air strip was used by 178 travellers, while Pärnu Airport served 113 passengers. There was no air traffic in Kihnu.
