Upgraded electric vehicle charging area now open at Tallinn Airport

A comprehensive upgrade of the electric vehicle (EV) charging area at Tallinn Airport’s multi-storey car park has been completed. In cooperation with Alexela, modern EV chargers have been installed in existing parking spaces on the lowest level of the car park. This area is now a clearly marked zone, where parking is only permitted for electric vehicles actively connected to a charger.

In the first phase, 32 modern chargers were installed, making EV charging during a trip more convenient than ever before.

“Our aim is to offer a service that gives our customers peace of mind – they can leave their car at the airport and return to a fully charged vehicle. Depending on the popularity of the charging area, we are prepared to increase the number of chargers in the future,” explained Eero Pärgmäe, Member of the Management Board at Tallinn Airport.

Kristjan Suurorg, Head of E-Mobility at Alexela, highlighted the cooperation with Tallinn Airport as a prime example of how to develop future-proof and sustainable infrastructure that truly meets users’ real needs and expectations.

“Our goal is to make everyday charging a natural part of the user journey – whether at home, on the road, or at the destination,” he said.

The charging area features semi-fast alternating current (AC) chargers with a capacity of up to 22 kW – ideal for passengers who leave their vehicle for longer periods. For added convenience, the chargers are equipped with integrated Type 2 cables, suitable for both plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles.
Payment for charging can be made via online methods (including credit cards, Google Pay and Apple Pay), through the Alexela mobile app, or with an Alexela payment card.

Tallinn Airport’s multi-storey car park has more than 1,200 parking spaces in total. As the number of electric vehicles continues to grow, we are committed to adapting an increasing portion of these spaces to support EV needs. In addition, passengers can use the short-term Kiss & Fly area directly in front of the terminal, or leave their vehicle for an extended period in the A2 long-term car park, located within a short walking distance of the terminal.

Environmentally friendly choices are at the heart of our strategy
When EV charging takes place during sunny hours, users can be confident that the electricity used is generated by the airport’s own solar park.

Tallinn Airport is steadily progressing towards carbon neutrality. Our environmental programme focuses on reducing energy consumption, increasing the use of renewable energy, minimising waste generation, and promoting climate-friendly modes of transport. The development of EV charging infrastructure is an essential part of our broader sustainability action plan.
