Nearly 233,000 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport in April

Tallinn Airport served 232,936 passengers in April. Compared to the previous year, the number of passengers increased by 7.2% – 5% for scheduled flights and 32% for charter flights.

The airline with the largest market share in April was airBaltic, which served 23% of all passengers and offered flights to 10 destinations. The market shares Ryanair, Lufhansa and Finnair were 17%, 12% and 9%, respectively.

In April, there were scheduled direct flights to 27 destinations and charter flights to eight destinations. Helsinki and Riga remained the most popular destinations of scheduled flights with 50 and 30 flights per week, respectively. The average capacity for scheduled flights was 74% in April and 66% at the same time last year.

According to Eero Pärgmäe, Member of the Management Board of Tallinna Lennujaam AS, airBaltic will bring an additional aircraft to Tallinn this summer, thereby significantly increasing its flight capacity in Tallinn. “We opened four new airBaltic routes in the first days of May: Spliti, Rhodos, Dubrovnik and Heraklion. For the summer season, the Berlin direct route was reopened with four departures a week and so was the Oslo route with two departures, which together with the connections offered by Norwegian will provide seven departures to Oslo per week,” said Pärgmäe. “Flights to the summer destinations of Malaga and Nice can now be operated three days a week, while the frequency of flights to Paris will increase to four departures per week.”

People who love Italy have three Ryanair destinations to choose from this summer season – Milan (Bergamo), Rome (Ciampino) and Venice (Treviso), plus the Wizz Air flights to Milan Malpensa. Greek airline Aegean is launching direct flights to Athens on 16 May, which makes it possible to discover the capital city and offers convenient connections to explore the whole of Greece.

April also saw the start of the very busy holiday season in Turkey, which put Antalya in the top five destinations from Tallinn. During the peak summer season, there are up to five daily flights from Tallinn to Antalya (scheduled flights with SunExpress and charter flights). In May, Smartlynx will also start charter flights from Tallinn to Corfu, and those interested in the charms of Montenegro will be able to fly direct to Tivat.

A total of 5,421 passengers passed through regional airports in April, including a record 3,396 passengers in Kuressaare and a record 1,348 passengers in Kärdla. 343 passengers passed through Ruhnu Airport, 312 through Pärnu Airport and 22 through Tartu Airport. There were no flights in Kihnu in April. According to Pärgmäe, regional airports also have good news, as flights on the Helsinki-Pärnu route, which is served by NyxAir, will start again on 25 May.
